ACORN took a group of members to the beautiful Northumbrian village of Bamburgh on Saturday 30th June. With the ongoing heat wave following us up the A1 the mood was buoyant all the way and passengers were delighted to arrive in the coach park which sports a magnificent view of the iconic Castle.

Quite possibly the best coastline in Britain with a fantastic back ground of the castle and a distant view of the Farne Islands the beach sizzled under the hot June sunshine. People who braved the trek across the dunes were rewarded with a magical uncrowded golden beach.

A visit to the epic Grace Darling museum which is free to visit and an inspiring tale of how one heroic young lady rescued people from the North sea during a storm. The museum is well laid out and well worth a visit. Across the road lies the cemetery in which Grace was laid to rest in a magnificent grave and a lovely cool church which was a welcome relief from the blazing sun.

In the afternoon we made our way back to the coach for the short journey to Seahouses. A bustling seaside town with a picturesque harbour offering boat trips to the Farne Islands. Many people relaxed on seats overlooking the harbour whilst munching tasty fish and chips in the afternoon sunshine.

Think we will be returning to this brilliant place again in the future, meanwhile ACORN continue planning for trips to South Shields, Scarborough and of course our annual amazing Fun Day. Why not join us at our next meeting on 12th July held in the upstairs lounge of the Phoenix club at 6pm to see what else we are up to.
