At the start of their final year of education, year 11 students at Greenfield and Woodham have the opportunity to win valuable prizes just by knuckling down.
These awards were set up four years ago as a means to encourage students in their final year to do well in the upcoming examinations.
Over the past three award ceremonies, held at the respective school proms, the prizes were awarded to the winners by Paul Howarth (Newton Press director), who also sourced the sponsors.
“Every year has improved on the previous year and I am able to give more prizes out because of the generosity of the sponsors. I would like to pass on my thanks to the local businesses who are involved, Honest John, Aycliffe Town Centre Management, Tesco, iTec, Beanies, Planet Leisure, Rotary Club of Newton Aycliffe, Jacks Driving School, Neville & Bewick Pharmacy and Newton Press” said Paul.
The teaching staff at both colleges have, in the past, noticed an improvement in students during their final year and they agree that this scheme is a contributing factor.
“I hope the ‘class of 2014’ will be as receptive to this award scheme as previous classes have and that you all gain the results you desire in your final exams” said Paul.
