Greenfield hosed SHINE week, for year 5 students in Newton Aycliffe. “Step up to the Line” presents the year 5 students with the opportunity to take up the challenge, to take a risk to be the best they can be.
Sometimes it’s not easy to take risks, be confident and to continue practising but in order to be the best you can be you have to continue to “Step up to the Line” – which is what the 300 students this week have done.
Each day the students worked in three different groups with teachers from Greenfield and staff from the Arts Centre. They tried new activities, met new people and worked together. One group looked at cup stacking, exploring what it takes to be the best cup stacker you can be, researching, testing and practising.
A second group explored our Gallery exhibition “Designing the Dynamic”, and came up with some fantastic new ideas for smart materials and technology to help sports men and women be the best they can be. The third group used our interactive installation “Pro Energy” to look about how the balance of energy in and energy out can help you be the best you can be.
“Pro Energy” was designed by students at Greenfield to help young people explore this idea. After spending the day working on their challenges, each student stepped up to the line in the afternoon, presenting what they had found to parents and family in a celebration of their creativity and talent.
A huge thank you to all staff and students from the primary schools involved, we look forward to seeing you and working with you again in the future. We would also like to thank staff from Greenfield Community College and Greenfield Arts Centre for their hard work to make this week possible.
