The races continue to come thick and fast with members representing the club across the region and beyond this week. On Friday 12th May, two members took part in race 4 of the York 5 series of races with John Surtees finishing second in the Men’s over 35 category in a time of 16:26. Tracey Surtees was first in the female over 35 category finishing in a time of 18:40.
On Sunday 14th May, one member took part in the Ravenscar trail half marathon with Sandrine Hewitt finishing in a time of 3:05:35. This was a run that could be described as brutal, with some stunning scenery and tough hills to climb.
On the same day, two members took part in the Derwent Reservoir Series of races in the 10k trail race. David Stothard (58:23) and Ian Stothard (1:21:42) both represented the club.
On Saturday, 25 members started their week with a parkrun taking in the Woodhouse Moor, Albert Park, Sedgefield, Stewart Park, Hackworth, Centre Vale, Carlisle Park, Robert’s Park, Hamsterley, North Yorkshire Water Park, Druridge Bay and Wynyard events.
Viv Williams completed the event at Woodhouse Moor for the first time, finishing in a time of 29:39. Over at Albert Park, Angela Surtheran finished third in a time of 22:40 which was also her personal best for this course.
Richard Campbell finished first at Hackworth Park in a time of 19:28 which was also a personal best for this course. Martin Turnbull (21:38) finished fourth in his first ever run on the course.
Keith Hatton continued his parkrun tourism taking in the Roberts Park event for the first time, finishing in a time of 26:14. At Hamsterley, Sandrine Hewitt warmed up for the Ravenscar trail half marathon by taking part in this event for the first time, finishing in a time of 31:432.
At North Yorkshire Water Park, four members completed the course for the first time with Paul Dalton (21:12), Jayne Rudd (30:33), Steph Colvin (34:57) and Natalie Sommerville (34:57) all taking part. At Druridge Bay, Samantha Harding (29:39) complete the course for the first time. Over at Wynyard, Kathleen Tonge (30:03) and Richard Tonge (31:37) both completed the event for the first time.
Now the summer is approaching, it’s an excellent time to get fit or get in shape. Our beginner’s session is an ideal session for anyone looking to get into running. Maybe you’ve been running on your own and looking for motivation to keep going or maybe you have been training for a ‘Race for Life’ event and want to keep it going. The beginner’s run is a gentle run and an opportunity for a social run over two to three miles. It caters for people of all abilities and is an opportunity to run with other people. The session starts from the Oakleaf Sports Complex at 6.30pm on a Monday night. Please keep a look out on our social media pages in case we need to cancel.
