Newtonian Karl McCormack has just passed out at RAF Halton on the 21st November 2017 after a year of injuries. He attended Woodham Church nursery, Vane Road School and Woodham Comprehensive.

When he was thirteen he joined 1407 Newton Aycliffe Air Cadets and rose through the rank to Cadet Warrant Officer. Whilst there he gained his gliding wing, adult first aid badge and a Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award, which he went to St James’ Palace to receive from Levison Woods the adventurer.

Karl attended many camps at RAF bases in this country but his best was Gibralta. He also went three times to Arnhem to take part in their August Parade. He then went on to be a Civilian Instructor at 2505 Bishop Auckland Squadron before going to Raf Halton for basic training in September 2016. On completion of training he is heading for RAF Cosford to train as an Aircraft Maintenance Mechanic (avionics) starting in January.
