Yet another busy couple of weeks in Newton Aycliffe, the Mayor’s charity gig at the Big Club, featuring super band Ocean, raised funds for the Mayor’s Charities: Together 21 and Wishing Well Club. Many thanks to Ocean for performing, Alan Lowe for coordinating the evening, everyone who came along and special thanks to my friend Brian Nichol for recording the event on camera and the generous donation which he made on the night.
Being Mayor of Great Aycliffe is a great privilege, especially as I get to attend many events across our fantastic town, from presenting certificates for the best fireworks display poster at the OakLeaf to schoolchildren, giving a prize to the winner of our new Christmas light design competition and being given the job of switching on the tree lights in the town centre, alongside my new friend Santa.
Saturday was one of those days which will live in my memory forever, having my photo taken with Santa’s new sleigh, meeting and greeting hundreds of excited children as they queued patiently to have their photo taken in Santa’s sleigh and receiving a selection box.
Our police did a great job chatting to the kids as they waited in line to enter the snow bubble. While the drummers from Spark! did an absolutely spectacular job of entertainment and we wished they had carried on longer. The organisers, Aycliffe Radio, should be basking in the glow of its success, well done to you all. Many thanks to those shops who allowed me in for a warm up. Another wonderful free day out in Newton Aycliffe, we are indeed lucky people living in this magnificent town.
