Sedgefield 75 Swimming Club attended their first competition of 2023 at the John Charles Centre for Sport in Leeds last weekend. Six swimmers made the journey to test themselves against mostly Yorkshire-based swimmers and came back with lots of personal bests and medals.
Filip Wilczynski dominated his eight events, winning seven golds and a silver, making significant improvements to his freestyle swimming and even breaking the club record for 50m freestyle for 13-year-old boys even though Filip may consider himself a backstroke specialist! The medals came in 50, 100 and 200m freestyle, 50 and 100m butterfly, 100 and 200m backstroke and 200m individual medley.
Evie Weston swam six events, smashing her 50m freestyle (1 second) and 400 individual medley (10 seconds) personal bests. Charlie McEwan swam 50m butterfly and freestyle, setting a good PB in the freestyle and winning bronze in both events.
Niamh Renton swam three events in her first 50m pool competition, setting PB’s in 100m freestyle and 50m breaststroke. Jessica Bell took two silvers from her three events, setting a PB in 100m backstroke. Jessica also set a club record for 11-year-old girls for 50m butterfly at 35.60 seconds.
Aviana Wilson took three seconds from her 50m back PB and won gold in the process in a large field. She also won bronze in 50m freestyle.
