A trio of local entrepreneurs are putting themselves on the map and at the same time bringing an old trade back into our area.

Jane Main from Heighington, is a garment production specialist with many years experience. She provides a full pattern drafting, cutting and grading service, as well as liaising with customers at all stages to ensure a positive outcome.

Michele Connell, from Newton Aycliffe, is now based in Shildon and has wide experience in the local and national dance, gymnastic and cheerleading apparel production market. From bespoke one-off competition outfits to standard items of lycra sport and activewear she also offers an in-house professional embroidery service, for workwear, team uniforms and corporate garments.

Spantastic is at Unit 10D, Dabble Duck Industrial Estate in Shildon open to public and trade customers from 9am until 4.30, Monday to Friday (or by appointment) Tel: 01388 417987 or email spantastic@talktalk.net.

Darren Rhodes is based in Newton Aycliffe having just completed 22 years service in the Army. Darren offers high quality digital printing service, directly onto garments.

They came together to form an associate business where each will benefit from services unique to each other. The UK textile industry has been forced into decline over two decades after the economic boom in the Far East where most clothing was produced overseas.

The trio saw a niche market for British-made garments and have now set up shop in an industrial estate just outside Newton Aycliffe. By offering their services they have found that the sum of the whole is greater than the individual parts, and are now receiving enquiries from clothing designers here in the UK and from Canada.
