Jamie Margolin, a film producer and cinematographer from Los Angeles has visited King James I Academy to talk to Sixth Form Media students about this exciting but highly competitive industry.

Jamie has worked on a selection of TV series and movies, including the documentary series, ‘After the Raves’, which is currently available on Netflix. He agreed to visit the Academy following a recent film shoot on the remote Isle of Eigg, off the west coast of Scotland, where he was working on a new American TV show called ‘Islands Without Cars’.

Students heard about the advantages and disadvantages of working in the film industry and gained useful advice on how to work around a budget, the importance of lighting and camera work and how to use props and costumes to their advantage. This advice will be hugely beneficial as students will soon be creating their own film as part of their course.

Year 12 student, Logan Ladd said: “The interview has helped me to gain a much better understanding of the film industry, with particular regards to camera work. It also helped me to understand the benefits of working in the industry, as well as the struggles. It was very inspiring.”
