On Friday we delivered the last of our primary school Red Boxes to those schools in DL5 that wanted one. Afterwards the volunteers celebrated with breakfast at the Thames Diner – one of our donation points. Work continues to supply the secondary schools and to top-up all the boxes as required. We currently have a total of eleven Red Boxes to maintain with more to follow.
The Red Box Project will continue to function until the promised government scheme to supply all schools and colleges in the country is up and running. No details have been announced but it is expected that the Project will run for at least another twelve months, so we cannot sit back on our laurels: we still need YOU!
Donation boxes are set up in the Thames Diner, Youth Centre, Library, Pioneering Care Centre, DebNHair Beauty Salon (Simpasture Gate), McColls (Neville Parade), St Elizabeth’s Church (Woodham) (Monday’s 2-4pm only) and Stephenson Way Children’s Centre.
Our girls and young women will no longer miss their education because of period poverty and it is thanks to the amazing efforts of our community.
We still need volunteers to help: it will involve no more than an occasional hour collecting or delivering. We are particularly in need of drivers with cars! Please email durhamredboxproject@gmail.com or find us on Facebook.
Many thanks to our volunteers, our wonderful donation centres and everyone in our community who has donated. Community Kindness Matters and you are making a real difference. Well done!
