As 2022 gallops along I find myself becoming increasingly busy with lots of events popping into my Mayor’s diary. On Friday I attended a civic dinner at County Hall, Durham at the request of Durham County Council’s Chair where we were entertained by Neville Jones and his daughter.
Saturday morning, we attended a coffee morning at St Elizabeth’s, Woodham where the Mayor was given the task of pulling raffle ticket numbers out of a basket to the delight of winners, not all work though, we also had a selection of cakes and a lovely cup of tea. As always, fantastic to meet the lovely ladies raising funding while having lots of fun.
Of course, Saturday was also the day of the Great Aycliffe fireworks display and, whilst waiting to record my message to start the event, I found time to sample a tasty sausage bun in the Oakleaf Complex. Not only was it cheap at £2 but it tasted fantastic too. What a superb event, well attended and supported by the great Aycliffe staff.
On Sunday we were asked to attend a civic service hosted by Mayor of Spennymoor Dean Ranyard and, following the service at St Paul’s church, had a chance to catch up with Mayors from across the region over a cup of tea and, dare I say it, cake.
The variety of events the Mayor attends can be anything from attending a coffee morning, full blown civic functions or even opening a factory, never a dull moment.
