Sedgefield Water Polo Club sent a men’s team to play in the ManUp Tournament at the Salford Quays, Manchester, on Saturday 6th August with the aim of retaining the title which was won by the club back in 2021. Other teams in the tournament included Rotherham, Birmingham, Chester, Bridgefield, Solihul, The Rockets and Hallum Old Boys.
This tournament is a different style of game to what the team are used to playing. ManUp is a fun, exciting and fast paced version of water polo promoting a more attacking style of the game with a smaller pitch and a reduced match time.
Playing outdoors in the Salford Quays on a beautiful sunny Saturday afternoon was definitely a challenge for the team, who played exceptionally well in open water throughout the tournament; winning all their games. The final was Sedgefield v The Rockets who had 2 ex-Olympians in their team! Sedgefield won the final, retaining their ManUp title for a second year running.
In addition to Junior and Senior sessions, the club now offer a beginner session on a Saturday afternoon for those wishing to try this fun and exciting sport. All sessions need to be booked in advance, so please check our website for further info and joining instructions; Contact us: 07579 030 598 or email: sedgefieldwp@hotmail.com
