Dear Sir,
I would like to agree if someone is using a bicycle to commute to and from work then they should, where available, use the cycle paths. I would like to point out that there are more than just cyclists who use bicycles to commute, there are those who cycle to keep fit and some of these use bikes that are designed for speed which are to be used on the road and NOT cycle paths. These cyclists have enough problems to deal with without being stereotyped as ignorant by dangerous drivers who have no regard for the cyclists safety.
Cyclists also contend with the state of the roads, with Newton Aycliffe having some of the worst in the north east. I would urge your correspondent not to tar all cyclists with the same brush.
