On Thursday 12th January, 7.30pm at Middridge Village Hall, David Hughes will give a talk on – ‘The Wright Stuff’ – The Adventures of Thomas Wright.
Thomas was born in Byers Green in 1711 and from a relatively humble start in life, he overcame a major speech impediment (and a small number of romantic scandals) and managed to rise to the very top of Georgian society with the Prince of Wales and the King being amongst his patrons. Among his many achievements in Astronomy, was being the first person to correctly explain the nature and shape of our Galaxy – The Milky Way.
