First race of the season for Seb in Minimax last weekend. We have not had much time to practice as it was a late decision to move classes early. This year he’s racing on an MSkart chassis, so we had a lot of learning to getting the set up right.
He had a great day testing on Saturday, before the race on Sunday, each session he was getting quicker, so couldn’t ask any more from Seb.
On race day the weather was beautiful, great to see the sun shining for a change! Going into the race Seb was hoping to finish top 5. He went out in qualifying and finished 6th/12th fastest.
Heat 1: Seb didn’t get the best starts losing a few places (10th), he got his head down, focused on driving, managed to finish 7th.
Heat 2: Seb started in P7, much better heat for him as we had changed some of the set up over lunch and he managed to finish P5.
The Final: Seb starts in P7. Start was much better and he had an amazing start getting up to P2 after a collision in front of him. He got his head down and drove his socks off, at one point challenging for the lead, but he rubbed tyres with another driver and thought he was going to get a penalty so moved over to let them through but didn’t realise another kart was catching them up, so went down to P3.
Seb finished the race in P3, as he came over the line he raised his fist in the air as he was so happy and his family were so proud of him. He did say he was nervous going into the race, but he has proven he can drive – he is still only 10.
Thanks to Craig, Callum and Aron at Be Inspired Gyms for supporting Seb with his fitness programme. Massive thanks to Emma and Ray at Westholme Fabrications for your continued support with Seb – your support means the world. Looking forward to this year’s racing.
We are still looking for sponsors, so, if any business can help Seb, we will tag your business in all our social media posts plus logo on his kart and race suit – drop me a message.
