Newton Aycliffe resident, Darren Burston is embarking on a new career journey thanks to the GAMP AAP’s flagship ‘Step into Business’ scheme.
Darren has been successful in launching his own courier service ‘Safe Transit’from a GAMP grant scheme which saw Darren benefit ftrom funding and assistance essential to his business idea.
Darren has been driving for over 20 years and 10 of those years involved driving professionally for a number of companies. The experience he gained over 10 years has proved to be invaluable when trusting someone with your goods and belongings. Darren is a fully qualified HGV Class 2 Driver, and aims to enhance his skills further to benefit Safe Transit’s service.
Darren will serve local business and is only minutes away from Aycliffe companies, opposed to the bigger courier companies which can be over an hour away.
He will operate as a one man business offering expert customer services to make potential clients feel at ease, and is hoping to develop trade from Aycliffe Business Park as well as bookings from his website.
Whilst working with South Durham Enterprise Agency Darren was introduced to the GAMP Scheme, who were willing to support him with the cost of branding which helped Darren create a professional image and a recognisable van.
Darren commented “The GAMP funding helped my business become more professional with the purchase of uniforms and logo, I was able to buy other essential equipment for the job including boots, marketing material and  printing. Overall the grant was very useful and I was able to make a good impression”
Darren is now running his fledging business in and around the Newton Aycliffe area and up and down the country, offering a personal service to individuals and businesses.
Adam White, AAP coordinator for GAMP said:
“GAMP’S key priorities are Employment, Enterprise, Education and Training”. This initiative brings together the Area Action Partnership and colleagues within South Durham Enterprise Agency with an aim of increasing self-employment opportunities.
