Dear Sir,
May I, through the Newton News, convey my thanks to the members of the Aycliffe Bus Preservation Society for inviting my wife and I to open their museum. David Clark and the volunteers were very welcoming and even allowed me to sit in the driver’s seat of some iconic buses. This was an historic moment for Great Aycliffe, at 74 years young, Newton Aycliffe now has its very first museum.
The famous Newtonian bus was pressed into service to carry passengers from across Newton Aycliffe to and from the museum free of charge. This turned out to be a great success judging by the numbers who attended, a fantastic day, with some great people who are passionate about preservation.
Local charity fundraiser Brian Nichol, was on hand to donate money to the group and to act as photographer for the day. Brian has been raising funds from his photography to support local charitable groups for a few years now.
I wish this group well in all their endeavours as they have been working hard to achieve this accreditation, we should all be very proud of this group and the work that they do preserving a little of our past.
Cllr Ken Robson
Mayor of Great Aycliffe
