Seniors unbeaten start
Hilda Park 2 v 9 Newton Aycliffe Youth FC ‘Seniors’
(Wearside League Division 2)
The team travelled to Chester le Street to play their 2nd league game, having had a cup game and a free week since their last league game. Hilda Park had remained unbeaten in three league games and were the early pace setters in the league. Straight from the kick off Aycliffe won a corner, which was headed home by Kieran Maughan. However, the home team drew level from a ball over the top and a cool finish from their striker. The lads regained the league when Jack Mortimer hit a shot that was superbly saved by the keeper but he was first to react and smashed home the rebound. As the first half progressed the lads started to dominate the midfield. A ball to Jack who then beat three defenders and his shot hit the bar but Niall Douglas was on hand to tap home, HT 1-3.
Second half, Aycliffe continued to dominate across the whole pitch and were creating lots of chances. A through ball found Ryan Peart and he fired home. This was quickly followed by a similar through ball to Ryan and the same result. Ryan then turned provider as he squared for Jack to get his second of the game. However an unusual mistake at the back allowed Hilda Park to grab a goal, but it was still all Aycliffe. Ryan was set away and had a 1v1 with the keeper but it was never in doubt as he completed his hat-trick. There was still more time for more goals as Jack cut inside the full back to fire home for his hat-trick. As the game drew to a close, the final goal came from Jack as he chipped the keeper.
Another dominant performance by the seniors and they look forward to a trip to Consett Blackfyne in the County cup next week.
MOM: Jack Mortimer, for an all round superb performance.
Consett Ladies Reserves 0 v 6 Newton Aycliffe Women
Great start to the season with a convincing win on the road.
Aycliffe made the perfect start and quickly raced to a 0-5 lead in the first 20 minutes. First goal came in the 2nd minute, a through ball from Kate set Katie away, 1 on 1 with the keeper Katie slid the ball into the corner. Three minutes later and Alex gets taken down on the edge of the box, Annabelle stepped up to take the free kick and smashed it into the top corner. Katie grabbed her second of the game minutes later, a through ball slid in by Annabelle set her away, she skipped past the defender and finished past the keeper from the tightest of angles. Katie then turned provider, a quick counter attack and a pin point cross found Alex at the back post to tap it in. One more goal in the first half and it went to Katie for her hat trick, a ball from Morgan found Katie on the edge of the box, a drop of the shoulder to send the defender the wrong way then a shot across the keeper off the post and in, HT 0-5.
Second half and Consett were battling hard and, to give them their credit, they frustrated the Aycliffe team who were now struggling to create chances. The next goal had to come from something special, and it did, a quick goal kick from Courtney set Meg away down the wing, a fantastic solo run finished off by an equally good finish gave Aycliffe their sixth and final goal of the game. POTM: Katie Bragg, sponsored by the The White Daisies. Never stopped running and was involved in four of the goals, scoring three and assisting one.
