Newton Aycliffe Cricket Club’s 1st team, sponsored by Franks the Flooring Store, lost by six wickets at home to second in the table Hartlepool 2nd XI in division two of the NYSD. After being asked to bat first, Aycliffe put in a poor performance with the bat and were bowled out for just 98 after 23 overs with only Matty Greaves (24 off 42 balls), Sam Telford (20 off 9 balls) and Dan Weldon (16 off 10 balls) managing double figures. In reply, Hartlepool comfortably reached their winning target after 20 overs, despite some good bowling from captain Sam Telford (sponsored by The Fairhursts), who took 3 for 7 and Matty Greaves (1 for 26). Newton Aycliffe Cricket Club’s young 2nd XI put in one of their best ever performances to beat promotion favourites Darlington RA at home by 59 runs in the shock result of the day in the NYSD 4th division. Aycliffe were asked to bat first and scored a respectable 170 all out after 33.2 overs with the main contributions coming from Tom Dearden (45 off 59 balls), Matty French with a career best 31 off 53 balls, 15 year old Dan Heaton (27 off 21 balls) and Dan Weldon (20 off 11 balls). In reply, the visitors were bowled out for 111 after 31.5 overs thanks to some excellent bowling from 16 year old Tom Dearden (sponsored by Kevin Burton), who took 4 for 39, 14 year old Will Dearden (2 for 10) and 15 year old Leo Stout (2 for 26).
The U17’s began their season with a comfortable win by 40 runs away at Northallerton in the NYSD Junior knock out cup quarter final. After being asked to bat first, Aycliffe totalled an impressive 152 for 3 from their 20 overs thanks to a superb career best score of 50 not out off 44 balls by Leon Patel (sponsored by Leas Flowers) and other good contributions came from Tom Dearden (33 from 30 balls) and captain Owen Smith (21 not out from 13 balls). In reply the homeside were bowled out for 112 after 18.3 overs with Will Dearden (3 for 8), Jai Sander (2 for 3) and Leo Stout (2 for 17) among the wickets for Aycliffe.
The club’s U13’s were beaten by 64 runs away at Rockliffe Park in the NYACC League. The home side piled up a huge 175 for 4 in their 20 overs despite some excellent bowling by Aycliffe’s Joey Hayman (sponsored by Dicksons) who took 3 for 10. In reply, Aycliffe were restricted to 111 for 1 in their 20 overs with all rounder Hayman completing a good individual performance when he top scored with an unbeaten 33 off 35 balls and he was supported well by Tom Norman (20 off 36 balls) and Liam Scott (16 not out off 42 balls).
Aycliffe’s U11’s won their first game of the season by 68 runs at home to Darlington in the NYACC League. Phoebe Sproat had an excellent game for Aycliffe taking 3 for 13 and scoring 9 not out. Dylan Facinelli bowled well taking 2 for 13 and captain Miles Telford shone with the bat when he top scored with an unbeaten 22.
