The Befriender Scheme was delighted to be announced winner of a Durham County Council personalisation award at a ceremony held in the Gala Theatre Durham on 30 September. The charity was judged to be the best example of personalised service in a community setting for 2013.
Accepting the award on behalf of the Scheme, trustee Elaine Williams said “This is a real coup for a small, local charity and it shows the value that is attached to the high quality services it delivers to adults with learning disabilities across Durham.
I am thrilled on behalf of the office team and the befrienders who are directly involved in providing support to our clients – it recognises the effort they all make, often far beyond what can be reasonably expected – it shows the commitment and loyalty that goes to making this a great service.”
She was joined at the ceremony by Co-ordinator Josie Stamp and Finance administrator Sarah Graham Ford, who are shown with the award and certificate.
The Befriender Scheme is a registered charity based in Spennymoor that supports adults with learning disabilities to take part in their personal choices of activity in the community. It works mainly in South Durham but is expanding its role in the North of the County.
