Newton Aycliffe Cricket Club’s 1st team, sponsored by Franks the Flooring Store had a disappointing day when they were comfortably defeated by 67 runs at home to promotion chasing Guisborough 1st XI in the NYSD 2nd division. The visitors were asked to bat first and scored what looked like a below par 132 all out after 49.1 overs. Fast bowler James Layfield-Carroll (sponsored by Signature Tiling) was in terrific form for Aycliffe taking a career best 6 for 37 and he was supported well by Patrick Howe who finished with 3 for 32. In reply, only James Layfield-Carroll (13 runs) and Chris Palmer (10 runs) managed double figures as Aycliffe were skittled for just 65 after 27.2 overs.
The 2nds lost for only the third time this season, going down by six wickets away at Guisborough 2nd XI in the NYSD 4th division. After being asked to bat first, Aycliffe scored a respectable 148 for 6 in their allotted 40 overs thanks to captain Joe Haines (sponsored by Pheonix Energy) third half century of the season when he scored 55 from 110 balls. Dan Weldon also batted well scoring a typically belligerent 32 from just 35 balls and Adam Gittins chipped in with 25 from 58 balls. In reply the homeside eased to a straight forward victory with six wickets and eight overs in hand.
The U13’s finished their league season in style with an excellent 60 run victory at home to Sedgefield in the NYACC League. Aycliffe were asked to bat first and reached a competitive score of 113 for 3 in their allotted 20 overs. Captain Tom Dearden again led the way for the home side with 30 runs (retired), Adam Shaw kept up his excellent recent form with 28 runs and Harrison Pearson (14 runs) and Dan Heaton (11 not out) batted well at the end of the innings. In reply Sedgefield were dismissed for 52 after 18 overs thanks to some excellent bowling from Aycliffe’s Alfie Spensley and Harrison Pearson, who both took three wickets and all rounder Tom Dearden chipped in with two wickets.
