Woodham Academy are delighted to announce that 30 students have completed the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award. The school’s Leadership Academy provides students in Y10 and Y11 with this opportunity, where students participate in a range of activities to gain this prestigious nationally and internationally recognised award. Students develop life skills such as resilience, organisation, and teamwork whilst gaining this qualification.
In July, the students participated in an expedition around the Barnard Castle area, where they worked together to navigate themselves through the County Durham landscape. They were self-sufficient for the weekend and camped in a local campsite. They gained outdoor experiences as they cooked on stoves and slept in tents. The weekend was particularly challenging as students carried tents and equipment along the countryside paths. Alongside the expedition element, students have also participated in volunteering, physical and skill sections of the award, and have demonstrated great perseverance, resilience and determination. We could not be prouder of our students’ achievements who have worked so hard as a team.
Congratulations to all of the Woodham students involved.
