From 4th to 6th August local athlete Vicki Finn Smith, aged 38, participated in the biggest competition of her life, The CrossFit Games. After qualifying top 10 in the world for her age (35-39) Vicki flew out to Cookeville, Tennessee where she spent 3 weeks training at a well-known CrossFit gym called CrossFit Mayhem. This allowed her to acclimatise to the hot weather ready for competition, and to train with other world class athletes ahead of The Games. The competition itself was filled with highs and lows for Vicki, with her living her biggest dream, but then picking up a shoulder injury early on in event 1. Despite this, Vicki soldiered on, completing all 8 events, even picking up a 5th place finish in a workout consisting of wall balls and strongman movements. Overall, Vicki finished in 9th place, crowning her 9th fittest in the world for her age; an absolutely outstanding achievement.
Vicki said, “I had an amazing time at The CrossFit Games, to have something you dream of come into fruition is surreal. The build-up, training camp at Mayhem and Games Experience is truly one I will never forget! Although I picked up a shoulder injury at The Games I loved the experience and the learning I have gained from it will bring me back again stronger”.
“Vicki has been committed to achieving her goal of competing at the CrossFit Games since she first started CrossFit with us back in 2015.
Everyone at the box is proud of her, but the level of support she’s received is down to her attitude. She remains the same humble person who walked through the doors years ago and, despite taking her training extremely seriously, she doesn’t take herself too seriously and is always up for a laugh and joining in with any members, regardless of fitness level or ability.
We are so proud to have Vicki coach at All Out and be the first person to make it to the Games. We are sure it won’t be the last time we get to watch Vicki on the big screen! She should be really proud of herself.”
