It has been a busy couple of weeks for our Members, with a variety of races taking place. That saw three runners take part in the rearranged Great North 5k on Friday 7 October. Clare Stradling set a new personal best for the distance with a time of 22:08. Natalie Valentino 31:42 and Judith Porter 31:51 also took part in the race.
On Sunday 9 October, three Members took part in the Richmond Castle 10k. This included Trish Kay 55:11 finishing second in the female over 60 category. David Stothard 57:55 and Eve Doe 1:08:07 also took part in the race.
At the same time, two Members took part in the Manchester Half Marathon with Gareth Kyle finishing in a time of 1:19:34 and Matt Muir finishing in a time of 1:32:32.
This was also the same day as the start of the NYSD Cross Country League with the first event taking place at Acklam. The club was well represented in the women’s race with four members taking part, including Lauryn Hellewell, 27:55, Sarah-Jayne Gill 29:53, Michaela Kerr 33:12 and Kelly Dickinson 36:23.
In the senior men’s race, there were six members taking part with Paul Dalton 38:14 first back in the veteran 45 category, John Firby 39:01, Dez Fielden 44:04, Shaun Dodd 49:01, Matt Heron 49:13, Shaun Dodds 53:30 also took part. In the Over 70 Veteran Male race, Kevin Greenall finished first in a time of 34:21.
Saturday 15 October saw three teams enter the NECCA Cross Country Relays at Thornley Hall Farm. In the senior women’s race the team of Lauryn Hellewell 15:18, Steph Colvin 18:49 and Michaela Kerr 17:00 finished in a time of 51:07. In the Men’s Masters race, there were two teams entered with the team of Richard Campbell 12:15, Peter Tennick 14:14 and Shaun Dodd 14:41 finishing in a time of 41:10. The team of Trevor Needham 14:42, Alan Wilks 15:28 and Richard Holland 14:11 finished in a time of 44:31.
On Sunday 16 October, nine members took part in the Yorkshire 10k set in Scarborough. Those taking part were John Surtees 35:41, Paul Dalton 37:14 and first in the male over 45 category, Tracey Surtees 42:10 who was third senior female, Clare Stradling 47:14, Kevin Tatham 50:01, Trish Kay 52:05 and third in the female veteran 60 category, Kirsty Cameron 1:00:48, Eve Doe 1:04:05 and Jayne Rudd 1:06:24.
On the same day one member took part in the Run for All Yorkshire Marathon. Dez Fielden completed the course in a time of 3:08:14 which is another club record for him in the 50-54 age group.
