This week I want to express my concern about the various dangers that our hedgehogs face when out exploring, some are still out and about, despite some of the weather conditions, so please help them.
Firstly, elastic bands, etc are a real danger, hedgehogs can get them wrapped around various parts of their bodies and cause constriction injuries, cutting off their circulation and, if they aren’t discovered and sent to the vet or rescue, the outcome is poor.
Pesticides are now available, slug pellets, etc, you would be better off saving money and refrain from buying them, our beautiful hedgehogs will clear your gardens and allotments, totally free!
We are trying to encourage people to make a hole in their fences so that hedgehogs can freely roam from garden to garden, if you support feed this is an additional benefit to your garden and our hedgehogs.
Can I, yet again, thank everyone who has made donations to this rescue, I have my hands very full, with 26 waiting for spring to be released, food and medical supplies don’t come cheap, thank you.
Can I also say thank you to Julia, she has donated some Royal Canin Mother and Babycat which is very useful to small and poorly little ones that come here, this food is very high in fat, very important when we, as rehabbers, struggle to get these beauties to gain weight.
Finally, I introduce you to Molly, she came into my rescue last November with the worst case of fluke I have seen. She has been cured of this parasite burden, but she is an old lady who has given us many hoglets over the years, she will be with me for some time to come but I was very worried about her over the weekend because she was bleeding from her mouth. Took her to the vet and she was gassed down to reveal that the silly girl had bitten her tongue.
What can I say, but here she is, quite mucky because she is also partially sighted.
