To begin with, this week, I want to explain to readers that rehabbers are not just rehabbers, we are wives, mums and have homes to run as well as our prickly babies to care for, we live with our hoggies 24/7 and work very hard to save them. There is no disrespect intended to our vets because I work very closely with Grange Vets, but if you find a hedgehog out in the day, it’s not ok, rescues are open evenings, weekends and bank holidays, we make a lot of personal sacrifices and it’s heartbreaking when we lose a precious little hog. Every rehabber across the country is not only full but overfull, so am I.
I have lots of babies, toddlers, juveniles and four adults in rescue and the only reason I can accommodate them is because I have 3-4 per cage because they are very small.
So, if I can’t get to the phone when you ring I will return your call, you have to give me time, please. Don’t go to the vets, do not release a hog, that you have found out during the day, ask my advice and if hoggie needs bringing in then I will give you my address, provided I have room. If I don’t, I will help sort a rescue out for you and a good one too.
To add to the pressure, we have to get out there and raise money for us to keep open, that’s not easy either, some antibiotics cost nearly £90 a bottle and I need more than one type too. Also food isn’t cheap when you have a lot in Rescue, your support keeps these babies alive. It’s what they need and deserve.
Thanks go firstly to Hazel, she produced beautiful carvings, I will have them with me at the petting zoo next week, Hilary for her collapsible clothes rail and two lovely ladies for never failing me or my prickly babies, June and Valerie, if not for them I would be closed! Thank you everyone who helps me stay open.
