Introduction
DPP are preparing to submit a planning application to Durham County Council for the proposed construction of a new one-storey replacement school building, followed by the demolition of the existing school buildings, with associated car parking, landscaping and outdoor play space and facilities at Sugar Hill Primary School, Newton Aycliffe, County Durham.
The application is being submitted on behalf of Tilbury Douglas and the Department for Education.
Undertaking public consultation with local residents in advance of submitting a planning application is an important part of the process for the applicants and allow members of the public and local community to engage with the vision for the site and to provide valuable feedback on the proposals.
The Site
The site extends to approximately 3.45 ha, and is located along Sheraton Road in Newton Aycliffe comprising an existing primary school known as Sugar Hill Primary School, which accommodates school places for nursery, reception, key stage 1 and key stage 2 pupils. Access is currently provided into the school site via three vehicular entrances off Sheraton Road.
