Police are appealing for witnesses after an elderly pedestrian was left in hospital following a road accident in Newton Aycliffe recently.
The accident happened at midday on Saturday, 7th December on Greenwell Road when the victim, a local man aged 83 was struck by a blue Vauxhall Corsa. He suffered a head injury but at first there was no immediate cause for concern as the collision happened at a relatively low speed and the pensioner was fully conscious in the ambulance which took him to Darlington Memorial Hospital.
However, over the weekend his condition worsened and this morning he was classed as being in a ‘critical’ condition. The car driver, a 26-year-old man was unhurt.
All witnesses who were spoken to at the scene are being re-traced in view of the accident now being classed as serious, anyone else who saw the incident should ring the police on 101 and ask for the road policing unit.
