Newton Aycliffe begin life in the Northern Premier League this weekend with a trip to North Ferriby. The journey on Saturday will be the first of a number of coach trips for the Aycliffe players and their supporters this season. However, it won’t be their first trip to Humberside. The Newtonians played a Second Qualifying Round FA Cup replay at North Ferriby in 2015.
Aycliffe’s season should have gotten underway, in this year’s Emirates FA Cup, last Saturday. However, the rain intervened and the game at Guisborough was postponed and rearranged for Wednesday 9 August. The winner of that tie will travel to either Pontefract Collieries or Birtley Town, who were also rained off, on Saturday 19 August.
Newton Aycliffe’s first home game in the NPL will be against former Northern League rivals Ashington on Tuesday 15 August. Kick off at the SecuriCorp Stadium is at 7:45pm. Aycliffe then travel to Liversedge in West Yorkshire before welcoming Grimsby Borough to Moore Lane on Saturday 26 August.
