Missed A Beat is a community organisation/charity that works on behalf of the community to provide lifesaving equipment. These defibrillators, provided for the public and community groups, ensure access to this life saving equipment is easily available in times of an emergency.
The organisation has already funded/supported and installed 12 static defibrillators throughout Newton Aycliffe and surrounding areas. Based on the mapping that has been conducted, the aim is to install cabinets with 24/7 defibrillators to cover Newton Aycliffe and the surrounding areas. The organisation has also provided portable defibrillators to a variety of groups to ensure they are accessible if there is an emergency.
Missed A Beat is hopeful after contacting several local business/manufactures, that they will work together and turn any portable defibrillators that they may have, into community units which will serve the business and the wider community.
The organisation also registers each defibrillator on ‘The Circuit’, which is a National Defibrillator Network delivered by the British Heart Foundation. This makes the defibrillator accessible to the public and allows emergency services to access it as required. ‘The Circuit’ provides regular updates to the guardians, with regular updates on the defibrillators.
The organisation is continuing to work across a multi-partner network to supply more defibrillators, including a wide range of national governing bodies such as the FA, Durham Cricket Board, and other wider regional initiatives. The organisation is in ongoing consultation to continue to develop, grow and work with Town and County Councillors in Newton Aycliffe and surrounding areas.
Missed A Beat has raised a considerable amount of funding to purchase over 30 defibrillators, which includes the installation of twelve fixed units around Newton Aycliffe and surrounding areas. They also work with national governing bodies and sports clubs and has donated 19 portable defibrillators to local sports teams. The organisation is working tirelessly to ensure that all areas of Newton Aycliffe are covered with static defibs and that a portable defib is accessible at sporting events, given the increase in cardiac arrests at major sporting events. The organisation is working closely with clubs ensuring that the portable defibrillators are dual usage so that more than one team has access to the portable devices, (Saturday and Sunday teams).
The organisation provides additional benefits by ensuring that these defibs are registered online through ‘The Circuit’ and that emergency services are able to direct people to these units in an emergency. So far, the units the organisation has installed, seven have been activated in emergency situations in the past year.
Missed A Beat has had support from Tesco, Cobblers Hall, Newton Aycliffe FC Juniors, along with some super fundraisers who have organised and raised funds to support the charity.
