Work has started to improve access to one of our local primary schools following intervention from Liberal Democrat councillors.
Parents of children at St Francis C of E, at Scholars Path, have struggled for many years with poor quality entrance areas with many having to stand on grass which, in the winter, frequently turned to mud.
In addition, the footpath access was not wide enough and, in places, frequently flooded.
Local County Councillor Michael Stead has used the neighbourhood budget to improve the situation. A hard standing area is being created and path drainage improved.
Councillor Stead comments, “The area outside the school gets so wet that children and parents are frequently covered in mud and prams get filthy.
“I’m delighted to be able to fix this issue after years of the problem not being dealt with.”
The work is expected to be completed in time for the start of the new school year.
