Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Celebrations
Saturday 4th June Heighington will celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee by inviting all Heighington Parish residents to meet on the Greens for one very big and very enjoyable picnic. It will start with a quarter peal on all six historic bells mounted in the Church tower with each ringer ringing their bell an amazing 1260 times.
Mr Paul Howell MP will open up the event at 1.30, singing and dancing will be the order of the day on both East and West Greens. There will be children’s races, football skill and the traditional Heighington Tug of War, ice cream on sale, face painting and many other activities, all designed for fun. A big red fire engine and, hopefully, an Interceptor Police Car (fingers crossed).
Entertainment will continue up to 9.30pm with music from Haley McKay and other popular groups. Our school children will be exhibiting their impressions of the Royal family, in the Village Hall, and there will be a display of old photographs showing how the village looked several years ago as well as videos from BBC 4’s Britain’s Most Perfect Village, together with other fascinating DVD’s taking us back in time. Refreshments will be available for you to sit and relax in our delightful Village Hall. On the Sunday morning at 9.30am there will be a special Church Service for the Jubilee.
So, two special days planned for enjoyment and happy memories which I hope will stay with our children for a long time to come.
Needless to say, Heighington will be busy throughout the day and we do not have many parking spaces so by all means drive up to the Greens and drop off your table, chairs and blanket and then go back home and leave your vehicle on your drive – otherwise chaos will prevail.
And one more appeal – LITTER – do not stuff it in the litter bins – please take it home and dispose of it in your own wheelie bin, thank you.
