This year the regional Culture Bridge North East ‘Imagine If’ conference was held virtually and asked cultural and educational leaders to imagine ways to explore creative learning.
The conference invited speakers and delegates to address learning in the current climate and “Imagine if… creative arts and cultural experiences gave children and young people the ability to share, understand and emerge from experiences of the Covid-19 crisis.”
Katy Milne, Creative Director of Greenfield Arts, had the opportunity to speak at the prestigious annual conference led by Culture Bridge North East presenting alongside Lorraine Coghill, Science Outreach Coordinator at Durham University. The creative team gave delegates an opportunity to take part in creative learning activities first-hand, using prompts from recent youth led projects, particularly projects that have been designed by students at Greenfield Community College and explored ways to evolve through recent times.
Katy and Lorraine suggested new ways of approaching self-led learning, its place in emerging from lockdown and imagining new learning futures. They explored some of their collaborative work together and the learning that has come from this work which is shaping practice. Feedback from the conference was very positive. The whole conference was inspiring and encouraged rich discussion and potential action to take forward.
Katy has been working alongside students from Greenfield Community College for over 15 years and is well placed to realise ways in which curiosity and enquiry are at the heart of learning techniques both in and out of the classroom. The school is one of the few secondary schools that have been awarded a prestigious Platinum Arts Mark Award and are delighted to be celebrating this during National Arts Mark week this month.

Programmes include creative STEM programmes, working with schools, communities, businesses and creative practitioners across the North East.
