Fans of two of the top Christmas movies are being invited to wrap up warm and enjoy a free afternoon of fun, as the pop-up cinema returns to Keel Square.
Shoppers can take a welcome break – or keep their youngsters amused – as two free screenings of festive favourites are planned, courtesy of Sunderland BID and Sunderland City Council.
At noon on Saturday 17 December families can enjoy a showing of the Disney favourite, Frozen, followed by Home Alone: Lost In New York at 2pm.
Some seating and blankets will be available, but those wanting to attend are being advised to wrap up warmly.
Food will be available on site along with hot chocolate, helping to create a real feeling of Christmas magic.
And anyone wanting to make it a really memorable day out can also enjoy the free AR trail which will bring to life a number of festive characters and creatures, accessed by the Sunderland Experience app.
Sharon Appleby, Chief Executive of Sunderland BID, is sure the event will be well attended.
“Nothing says Christmas than watching one – or two – of everyone’s favourite movies,” she said.
“We know Frozen is a real crowd pleaser, as is Home Alone, so we’re sure that this free entertainment is something that people won’t want to miss.”
Sunderland City Council’s Cabinet Member for Vibrant City, Councillor Linda Williams, said: “There is plenty to enjoy in Sunderland over Christmas, and this latest offering is perfect for families doing their Christmas shopping in the city centre or for anyone who wants to watch some festive films in a fun outdoor setting as we enjoy the countdown to Christmas.”
