Woodham’s Dance Academy have been working exceptionally hard in preparing for a very busy year. Over 40 students have been attending weekly sessions where they have been learning choreography in a variety of styles. Working with Hannah Duffy, Sarah Aitken and Kay Clarey (Joanne Banks Dance Academy), students are preparing for the Woodham’s Christmas Concert, the Feet First Dance Showcase at the Gala Theatre, and the Great Big Dance Off in Halifax, as well as many other performances. Dance Academy welcomes students from all year groups who dedicate their time throughout the week, to master choreography and learn new pieces.
Recently, students have had the opportunity to participate in two dance workshops. The first, Ministry of Dance, allowed students to experience a class in Jazz. The hour-long session had students working on technical skills, as well as fun choreography. Danielle, a Teacher from Ministry of Dance, guided students through posture, style and skills, and had students moving nonstop for the entire session.
The following day, Debbie from Dance City, delivered a contemporary master class. This was a completely different experience from the day before where students learned about controlling their body and being creative with movements. The class lasted an hour and a half, and students worked exceptionally hard throughout. The Dance Academy is very much focused on participation, but many of the students have improved to such a level that they have come to the attention of the Centre of Advanced Training programme at Dance City, Newcastle. Further opportunities are certainly on the horizon for some of the dancers.
Woodham Academy’s Christmas Concert will be held on Thursday 14th December. More information on the Christmas concert will be available on the website soon.
