The Youth Theatre performance of “We Lost Elijah” by Ryan Craig at Greenfield Community College on Wednesday 13th and Thursday 14th March was part of the National Theatre ‘Connections’ – a nationwide celebration of new plays for and about young people, with new plays commissioned and performances every year all over the UK.

“We Lost Elijah” tells the story of the disappearance of Elijah, whose older brother and friends were charged with getting him home safely while riots were raging. Somehow though, somewhere on the route, something happened and they didn’t make it home together. The play explores several themes including identity, manipulation, self-doubt, self-esteem, acceptance, rejection and deceit.

Advanced Skills Teacher for Drama at Greenfield, Lesley Watt, said “I chose this play knowing it would be challenging and interesting. I was certainly ‘hooked’ the first time I read it and felt this young and inspiring cast would relate to the complex issues it explores.”

Anna Jones, a director from National Theatre  watched the play and discussed the performance afterwards with the cast and director/producer Lesley Watt. Anna was very impressed with the quality of the acting, the interpretation and the set design.

All those who attended the performances enjoyed and appreciated the performances by the talented cast, well done to all involved. On Thursday 25th April at 7pm the play will be performed at Northern Stage in Newcastle. Contact the Northern Stage on 0191 230 5151 for more information and to book tickets.
