New College Durham Fabrication & Welding apprentice, Bailey Hymas, won The Welding Institute (TWI) Apprentice of the Year award (Northumbria branch).
Bailey was nominated for this very prestigious award by his employer PRM Fabrications of Chilton. He was presented with the award at the Northumbria branch awards ceremony, and received numerous additional prizes, including TWI branded clothing and tech from their sponsors, Dyer Engineering and 3M.
Bailey said: “To be nominated for this award would have been more than enough, but to win means so much to me. All the hard work I’ve put into my career path over the past two years has paid off. Thanks to PRM Fabrications ltd for taking me on and helping and believing in me all the way, to New College Durham and Christopher Dawson for nominating me and pushing me to be the best I can be.
“This award proves that hard work pays off and that if you want something, and you try hard enough you can achieve anything. Looking forward to what this opportunity can bring for the future of me and PRM.”
New College Durham Lecturers, Chris Dawson and Graham Thompson, supported Bailey throughout his apprenticeship, and representing the College twice at WorldSkills in the Construction Metalwork (fabrication) competition.

He has demonstrated that he has excellent fabrication & welding knowledge and skills.
