Since September a group of young people have been a part of “Book Buzz” at Greenfield Community College- a group who aim to be enthused and inspire others to love reading and love books.
One of the ways they are doing this is by working with Greenfield Arts and the Greenfield Arts’ Men’s Cree volunteers project to create a “Little Free Library.”
The library will have two public installations, one in front of Greenfield Arts Centre and another to follow later at the Sunnydale Campus in Shildon. Both “Little Free Libraries” will hold books that have been collected and donated for young people and members of the community to borrow, read and return.  “Book Buzz” hope that this will inspire people to read something new. The young people have been working alongside volunteers to develop the idea for the installation, and will be learning new skills to help build it too!
Another local group, Horndale Residents Asso-ciation, are supporting the project with a kind donation raised at a recent Winter Fayre at Greenfield Arts – to pay for materials.
The boys have been very busy building the libraries, collecting books and making plans ready for the launch at the end of February – we can’t wait to see it finished! This project is one of many our fantastic Cree volunteers are supporting.
They meet on Mondays and always welcome new volunteers! For more information about this and other projects visit our website www.greenfield-arts.co.uk
