At the end of November we had a fascinating talk on ‘How to trace your family tree’ from David Lewis which involved the travels of his family to Canada and back and the difficult lives that some had to endure. He has traced trees for other friends and there was an amazing twist where one led him straight back home!
Many members enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea at Bannatyne’s restaurant in Darlington, there wasn’t much left at the end on the cake stands or in teapots.
Members attended a wreath making session and Christmas craft sessions guided by Sue, who is one of our members. We also had the Durham Federation of Women’s Institutes annual Carol concert, held at St. Mary’s church in Barnard Castle. The church was filled with WI members, the lovely service was conducted by Rev Canon Alec Harding and the singing joyous. We combined the day with a visit to Bowes Museum Winter Fair and a surprise visit to Thorpe Farm cafe.
We finished the year with our Christmas party which involved a fish and chip supper, Christmas house decorating, a festive drink with mince pies and some dancing – great fun!
From all the members of Aycliffe Village WI we hope everyone had a peaceful and joyful Christmas and our best wishes to you all for the New Year.
