Newton Aycliffe Cricket Club’s 1st team, sponsored by Franks the Flooring Store, were well beaten by 84 runs at home to promotion chasing Darlington in the NYSD 2nd division. The visitors elected to bat first and scored an impregnable 267 all out after 46.4 overs. It was hard work for the bowlers in the baking heat and the wickets were evenly shared with Matty Greaves, Tom Dearden, Luke Telford and George Slatcher all taking a couple of wickets each. In reply, Aycliffe opener Sam Telford (sponsored by the Thomas-Fairhurst family) batted superbly, smashing 54 from just 35 balls including seven boundaries and three sixes. Adam Gittins continued the good work scoring 44 from 112 balls and in the process became only the fifth player in the club’s history to pass the 6,000 aggregate runs milestone for Newton Aycliffe. Luke Telford chipped in with 20 from 32 balls but the innings fell away sharply after he was out, as Aycliffe were dismissed for 183 after 40.4 overs. This match was sponsored by Upex
The second team made it two wins in a row after their excellent victory by 117 runs, away at Bedale 2nd XI in the NYSD 4th division. Choosing to bat first Aycliffe scored an impressive 218 all out after 37.2 overs with captain Ryan Patrick (sponsored by A Star Bathrooms) leading from the front scoring 66 off 75 balls including eight boundaries and two sixes. Opener Dan Bowmer also batted well scoring 50 from 44 balls with ten boundaries and Dan Craggs chipped in with 28 off 22 balls. In reply, the Aycliffe bowlers stuck to their task well, in the baking sunshine, and vice captain Dan Weldon put in an excellent shift, bowling ten overs in row and taking 3 for 28. 13 year Will Dearden (2 for 8), Matty French (2 for 21) and 17 year old Ramzan Hussain (2 for 23) all contributed with the ball as the home side were bowled out for 101 after 36.4 overs.
The Club’s u11’s played in their first ever cup final (the NYACC Plate) and put in a good performance but were still beaten by 31 runs at home to Sedgefield. Joey Hayman once again had a superb game for Aycliffe, firstly top scoring with 22 runs and then later taking 3 for 14. Trent Telford did well with the bat scoring 13 runs and Phobe Sproat took 2 for 21 when Sedgefield replied.
