Christmas is upon us and everyone is frantically doing their Christmas shopping, buying gifts and planning what lovely food they are going to eat during the festivities. Aycliffe charity “Helping Hands” are hoping that kind people and businesses from Aycliffe will once again come to their aid by helping raise money to pay for the Christmas items needed to make sure that those families/individuals on a low income or living in poverty can be helped to have food on the table this Christmas.
The demand for help from Helping Hands continues to rise and as the cold weather looms some people, through no fault of their own will have to choose between putting food on the table or keeping their home warm.  Helping Hands would like to take delivery of at least 50 hampers this week.
Alwyn White, says “these hampers represent exceptional value for money as we only have to pay around £1 for each £10 worth of goods. For example £200 donated will feed 20 families, £100 will feed 10 families over this special time of the year.
We are hoping that generous readers and local businesses who read Newton News will come forward to generously support our Christmas Appeal. This will then enable us to distribute essential items in time for Christmas to the most disadvantaged and vulnerable members of our community”
The team from Helping Hands and its founding charity Lifeline Community Action will be preparing to receive these provisions as they expect to have an increase in the number of people seeking assistance over the next week leading up to Christmas.
