Newton Aycliffe Cricket Club’s two senior teams made it a memorable weekend for the club with both earning 25 point victories after completing a notable double against Bedale CC.
The 1st team, sponsored by Franks the Flooring Store had an excellent 53 run victory at home to Bedale 1st XI in the NYSD 2nd division. After being asked to bat first, Aycliffe scored a very respectable 199 for 9 in their 50 overs thanks to excellent innings from Adam Gittins (sponsored by Phoenix Energy), who finished with 58 not out, Luke Telford (40 runs) and Jack Slatcher (36 runs). When the visitors batted, all rounder Slatcher lead the way for Aycliffe taking 4 for 33 and he was given good support from Michael Howe (2 for 22) as Bedale were bowled out for 146 from 45.3 overs.
Sam Telford (sponsored by Neil and Kim Telford) put in an extraordinary performance breaking second team club records for the fastest fifty (22 balls) and then the fastest hundred (41 balls) when he scored a memorable 125 as the 2nd team beat Rockliffe Park at home by 55 runs in the quarter final of the Hornby Cup. Aycliffe scored 194 for 3 in their 20 overs and then Rockliffe were restricted to 139 for 3 when they replied.
The 2nd team won their second game in a week with a hard fought 58 run victory away at Bedale 2nd XI in the NYSD 4th division. After losing the toss, Aycliffe batted first and scored a superb 215 for 8 in their 40 overs thanks to an outstanding innings from Joe Haines (85 runs from 78 balls, including 11 fours and 2 sixes). Neil Bancroft and Daniel Bowmer also both batted well scoring 44 and 35 respectively. When Bedale replied, they were eventually dismissed for 157 after 35.5 overs thanks to some good bowling from Dylan Tribley (3 for 24) and James Brown (2 for 24).
The u13’s played really well at home to Darlington and took the game to the final over before the visitors took the honours by eight wickets. Batting first Aycliffe scored 70 for 3 from their 20 overs thanks to brilliant 27 not out from fast improving David Robinson. In reply a wicket each for Charlie Cayless and Jai Sander was not enough to prevent the visitors from reaching their winning target after 19.1 overs.
The following night however, the u13’s won by 15 runs away at Wolviston. After being asked to bat first Aycliffe scored 91 for 5 from their 20 overs with Charlie Cayless top scoring with a career best 27 and he received good support from Matthew Greaves (21 runs) and David Robinson (14 runs). In reply the homeside were restricted to 76 for 6 from their 20 overs thanks to some tight bowling and good fielding from Brandon Grant, Harry Brumwell and wicket keeper Adam Shaw.
The u11’s lost a nail biting game at home to Wolviston by just 7 runs and the u15’s lost away at the same opposition by 75 runs in the NYACC league.
