Despite it being Easter weekend, some teams still needed to play to get through their backlog of games.
Aycliffe U12 Angels Blue 6 v Hartlepool Pools Youth Whites 0
A nice morning for football on a pitch that had recovered well from the rain. The girls attacked well down the wings and put in plenty of crosses during the match, but their goals came from different routes. They scored three goals in the first half from Evie, Sophie and an unlucky own goal from a corner by Evie. After scoring the third we asked if Whites wanted to put on their 10th player and from that point on played 9 v 10. Into the second half and the girls were causing problems with their corners, Faith latching on to one to fire home which was followed by a great header. The final goal came from the penalty spot. Layken was fouled in the box and it seemed only right that she should take the spot kick. She made no mistake and smashed the ball into the back of the net, giving the keeper no chance.
Players Star: Layken, Coaches Star: Sara.
Aycliffe U18 Girls 11 v Deerness 0
Penultimate game of the league shield against a team who have had a tough season. The first goal came after seven minutes from Katie who had an excellent game up front and she went on to complete her hat trick, in the 74th Morgan matched her hat trick, the first coming direct from a corner. Olivia was causing Deerness all sorts of problems and weighed in with two goals. The scoring was completed by Jess with a back post tap in, a first goal for the team from Bethany who lobbed the keeper from 25 yards and a mazy run from Alex who slotted into the corner. A quiet game for Laila in goal but she needed to pull off three excellent saves to earn her clean sheet. Overall, a solid performance from the girls who know the final game of the season will be a lot tougher.
Aycliffe U12 Yellows 1 v Darlington Locomotives 4
The first half was very even as Aycliffe created a couple of really good chances but it was the visitors who grabbed a goal and led at half time. However, a quick start from Darlo and we found ourselves three down but Aycliffe continued to play well and got their reward as Payton scored her first goal for the Yellows. A late converted free kick completed the scoring. POTM: Payton.
