Margaret Bradley, a resident for 60 years, who lives at Oakfield, rang to express her opinion on two issues, bugging her at the moment.
First she mentioned the state of the West Park Lake near to her home and where she loves to visit. She has noticed how much the lakes have deteriorated over the last few years and welcomes the efforts of volunteers to clear the algae which makes it very unsightly.
“However it is a thankless job as the algae keeps returning and a more permanent solution is required” said Margaret. She believes there was a pump filter system at one point as the lake was  used by a model boat club and for pleasure boats. She can’t remember the lake looking as bad then.
The other disappointment for Margaret was the magazine issued by the County Council as she found no reference to Newton Aycliffe at all despite the numerous activities held in the town.
“We are ratepayers and we should get our fair share of everything going and I have noticed over a number of issues that Aycliffe gets little mention, if at all” said Margaret.
Newton News did bring this to the attention of the Editor of the magazine two years ago, but it has made little difference. Newton Aycliffe  on the the south west border of the county seems to be disregarded.
