Sedgefield Water Polo Club travelled to Maltby Leisure Centre on Sunday 7th May for their second U14 league match of the season. For some members this was their first competitive league match since joining the club as beginners in our level 8 sessions and, as such excitement levels were high and everyone was looking forward to the experience that the game would bring. Several of our members train at Rotherham as their second club, so this match was going to be much harder than expected since the opposition knew the strengths and weaknesses of some of our team.
The match was closely contested from start to finish. Indie and Theo both scored their first competitive league goals, whilst Aston saved two penalties with his quick reactions and strength in the water. Sedgefield got the win they deserved, although the 7-8 score was much closer than they would have liked to have seen.
Coach Kate Harrison commented “the team, although young, played very well in a difficult game, ultimately coming home with a win. The teamwork and intensity made for a great game to watch and coach. I was very impressed with the results and how they adapted throughout the game in order to bring home the win.”
Thank you to the coaches and parents for making the long trip to Rotherham on a bank holiday weekend.
In addition to Junior and Senior sessions, Sedgefield Water Polo Club now offers a beginner session on a Saturday afternoon for those wishing to try this fun and exciting sport. We are also looking for more females to come and join our club so that we can have our own ladies team in future years. All sessions need to be booked in advance, so please check our website for further information and joining instructions.
