Great Aycliffe Town Council has agreed to establish poppy meadows in high profile areas of the town to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of World War One.

The red poppy meadows will be in strategically positioned locations across the town including outside St Clare’s Church near the war memorial and Aycliffe Village green. Further meadows will be located outside the Town Council offices on School Aycliffe Lane and at Woodham and Horndale Parks.

In addition, the Town Council has agreed to purchase two 6-foot sculptures of the WW1 ‘Tommy’ soldier, which will be positioned outside St Clare’s Church and at Aycliffe Village, among the poppies.

In the next week the areas concerned will be prepared for seeding. For more information please contact Great Aycliffe Town Council on 01325 300700.
