A rescue for these poor hedgehogs is only as good as the support it gets and I have experienced great support in the last few days. My thanks go to everyone who has purchased raffle tickets, friends and neighbours etc. A lovely donation from Neil, who rescued Holly. Bless her it has been a very turbulent two weeks for her one way or another but she is currently on the right medication, my thanks again to our lovely Angela and Elaine of Grange Vets and Dawn of A Prickly Problem too, who some of you have met when she has travelled from Butterknowle to take hedgehogs to her rescue. A big thank you to June and Val for their continued support, without them me and our prickly friends would struggle.
I would like to ask everyone who are keen gardeners to please check before cutting and strimming, I have received some reports of hibernating hedgehogs being disturbed by strimmers even this early in the year, some hedgehogs will be waking up but the night time weather conditions remain cold, some people have seen hedgehogs just briefly coming out to eat then going back into hibernation. Please take care, they are beautiful mammals and don’t deserve what us humans inflict on them.
For those of you who can, there is a lovely Hedgehog Street App, lots of information and there is a Hedgehog Map which you can also check to see how many hedgehogs are in our area. I will soon be releasing the ones I have overwintered.
Photo shows Rana, a lovely little female from Cockfield, she loves her comfy safe bed and nice food.
