In March this year a group of Greenfield students worked to collect Fairtrade packaging to build inspired sculptures as part of Fairtrade fortnight.

Two sculptures were entered ‘Tipping the Balance’ and ‘The Future’s Bright,’ representing the imbalance of trade in the world and how Fairtrade can make the future brighter.

The sculptures won a prize, voted for by other schools in the country via Facebook. A group of students involved visited Tropicial Wholefoods at Fulwell Mill Sunderland, the leading Fairtrade importer in the UK.

During the visit, they toured the factory to see how different products were made. They had a taster session, trying the different products made by the company and also the ingredients used. They designed our own Fairtrade snacks and made a prototype in the kitchen.

This will be produced in a bigger batch, packaged and sent to school. It was an enjoyable day and the students represented the school brilliantly – well done!
