Pitching In NPL Division One East
North Ferriby 4 v Newton Aycliffe 1

Newton Aycliffe kicked off their maiden Northern Premier League East campaign away to fellow league newcomers, North Ferriby. With North Ferriby scoring 93 goals last season and exactly 100 the season before, it was always going to be a very challenging game. So it proved, with the home side running out 4-1 winners.
For the first 20 minutes it was an end to end contest, but Danny East broke forward for Ferriby, outpacing every Aycliffe defender to confidently chip over Daniel Cameron to make it 1-0 for the home side.
Aycliffe were still threatening however, and made it 1-1 courtesy of last season’s star man Liam Jarvie almost a minute after Danny East’s opening goal. A nice, well worked low shot into the Ferriby goal. Aycliffe would keep going forward, but just couldn’t break down the home side.
But North Ferriby would keep threatening, especially from set pieces, which Aycliffe consistently struggled with the entire afternoon. Tom Corner, ironically from a corner, with a looping header to make it 2-1. The home side simply had bigger, and more mature bodies in the box, both when attacking and defending.
With the half time score at 2-1, it still seemed a very open game, one which certainly contained more goals. However, defender Jack Naylor, going off injured before the second interval was yet another blow to Aycliffe. The second half had sustained Ferriby pressure, and the pressure eventually paid off, Danny Earl was given acres of space to finish a well worked goal in the 55rd minute.
This really seemed to hit Aycliffe hard, while Daniel Cameron had some brilliant finger tip saves, very little happened of note for the away side as Ferriby seemed to grow more and more comfortable and, in 67th minute, Amir Berchil, tapping in what Tom Corner couldn’t, much like the third goal, Ferriby seemed to be given far too much space and made it count.
Aycliffe would have some more chances, but Ferriby would see out a 4-1 victory and keep the three points in East Yorkshire. Aycliffe will have to bide their time for their next NPL outing at Liversedge, instead having to face Guisborough in an FA Cup replay at the SecuriCorp Stadium on Tuesday night, a trip to Pontefract Colleries on Saturday awaits the winner.
