MCYFC Aycliffe 3 v Wear Utd 3
After losing to Wear earlier in the season and them sitting 3rd in the league we knew it was going to be a tough match. Recent matches showed the team is improving rapidly and the recent additions of Ewan Mackenzie and Ethan Bussey have helped .
From kick off Aycliffe battled hard and didn’t stop running. For large periods they were the better team and Wear just had no answer. They scored from 2 corners after sloppy defending and their 3rd was a brilliant strike giving Theo no chance of stopping. Theo was alert throughout and was brave enough to take a boot to the head and carry on playing.
Our defenders protected the score, making sure Wear’s attackers were quiet for most of the Match. Anderson, Joey and Ewan controlling the wingers and Danny and Luke battling hard in the middle. Baring the goals and other moments, the whole defence were solid all game.
Central midfield were given the task of holding their positions and to play the ball forward quickly to start our attacks. Cruz and Lewis dominated the middle and didn’t give Wear any time on the ball. Our two wingers, Chappers and Ethan, were a constant menace all the way until through the game. Relentless running to help defend and attack.
The deadly duo of Jake and Oscar drove the defenders crazy with their passing and dribbling. On another day they could have had more goals between them. Wear’s keeper proved to be their saviour after pulling off several important saves.
At the end of the match Wear United’s manager even said we should have won the game and we have a brilliant team. Then hearing opposition parents saying we are a good as Wrekenton (who are currently top of the league), shows how far this team has come since the start of the season.
Big shout out to the players who didn’t get on the pitch, they stood and cheered the team on and showed excellent team spirit.
Well done everyone.
Goals: Oscar James x 2, Jake Hall x 1.
Player of the Match: Luke Walker, playing the full match in central defence, he showed brilliant instincts to get the tackles in when needed and when to pass and when to just clear it. He beat everyone in a fit race for the ball and put in an excellent shift, even after taking the ball to his face and being covered in mud.
